Charles Campbell (1888-1985) was born in South Portland and graduated from Portland High School in 1903. That same year he went to work for Loring, Short and Harmon. He managed the book department there for 30 years. In 1935 he opened his own bookstore, Campbell's Book Store, located at 604 Congress Street, which he continued to operate until 1974.
